Easter in Spain 2020: Semana Santa
Visit Spain when the weather is at its best and the orange blossoms perfume the air. This twelve-day tour focuses on the unique spiritual life, religious architecture, and festival ritual of Spain during Holy Week. We will visit Toledo, Córdoba, Sevilla, and Granada, observing several distinct traditions of celebrating Holy Week. The tour explores the unique melting pot--or "convivencia" in Spanish--of Christian, Jewish, and Islamic cultures. We will observe the effects of Spain's unique cultural heritage on the fabulous architecture, dramatic religious practices, and unique traditions of Castilla-La Mancha and Andalusia. The tour provides an interpreter not only at museums, but also at Mass (when appropriate). Tour guides includes experts in Spanish literature and culture during the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Baroque. Practice your Spanish and soak up Spanish spirituality and culture. We will also of course enjoy Spanish wine, cheeses, olives, ham, and the best of the regional cuisines of La Mancha and Andalusia. I inaugurated this tour because I observed, during my many trips to Spain, it was next to impossible to arrange substantive tours in English for my friends. The tour begins in Madrid and ends in Granada. So you should schedule an extra day at the beginning of the tour to bask in the unparalleled Spanish and Flemish collections at the Prado or the incredible modern art at the Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid. At the tail end, take in some hiking (or possibly skiing if the snow pack holds) in the Sierra Nevada 30-60 minutes from Granada, or drive through the breathtaking Alpujarra mountain range with its white pueblos and end by dipping your toes at the beach in Málaga. ExecuTutor arranges tours, hotel reservations, and ground transport at first class standards. Although most every tour will push you through the country in a slow-moving coach, we prefer the convenience and comfort of Spain's incredible high speed trains. ExecuTutor always chooses beautiful, architecturally significant, and very comfortable lodgings. Accommodations are first class hotels, inns, and, when possible, villas with pool and the famed gardens, or patios, for which the south of Spain is known. Priority for tours is given to our executives and students, although we welcome everybody. Age of participants ranges from college-aged students to retirees, and we strive to select participants who are serious about the theme of the tour.
