"Critical Writing" teaches students how to analyze any kind of text in the humanities or social sciences.  We learn how to do research using credible sources on academic search engines.  We work intensively on thesis statements, introductions, paragraph development, selecting quotes, and interpreting citations.  The course works with model essays and paradigms for structuring an argument.  Students receive detailed comments to revise their papers through several drafts.  "Writing for the SAT or ACT" teaches tenth or eleventh grade students how to write essays under time constraints and on the kinds of topics that these standardized exams test.
